Hey guys, this is Chelsea!
It has been a major adjustment for me walking around campus in such cold weather and snow. The school I go to is in an extremely cold climate. I’ve been living bundled up in scarfs and knitted socks and sweaters. The first week that I was out here, it was probably one of the coldest winters this place has seen in a while with temperatures not rising above 5 or 10 degrees. However cold it is here, I know the rest of the country has been suffering too!
With this kind of weather, I wasn’t all that surprised when Holly, Annie and our mom caught some of the many bugs that have been circulating around. Being sick is not fun, and my current cold climate is the prefect environment for me to get sick too!
We shared a post on foods that can help you stay healthy during the winter about a year ago. But sometimes at your best effort, sickness can still creep in! But doing some of the simple, healthy things can help keep a sickness from escalating to something worse and will help the body recover as best it can. After asking on Facebook, readers shared even more awesome new tips for natural ways for feeling better. Thank you for your suggestions!
I think a common suggestion is to drink lots of liquids. Sometimes when we are sick, we don’t feel like eating or drinking anything. This drink can help get lots of nutrients in without a lot of work.
This recipe is unique because it uses a green veggie powder mix. We realize many people do not have this item stocked in their pantry but for those of you who do, this is a great way to use it. A green mix helps get in lots of different greens in one go. A bonus to having a green mix on hand is that you can omit the fresh ingredients if you don’t have a blender or food processor and can still enjoy a healthier drink option. This particular drink is also not super cold, which makes drinking it so much easier. If you don’t have a favorite green mix to use, you can look at natural health foods stores (Whole Foods sells them) and online. You could also try subbing in protein powder in this recipe. What ever you use, be sure they are natural and not artificially sweetened.
You’ll find the combination of powder, greens and juices create a soothing green drink, but will still fill you up with healthy, healing nutrients.
Easy Healthy Green Drink
Print Recipe
1 small peeled, Clementine or Mandarin Orange
1/2 cup Frozen Spinach
2 teaspoons Natural Green Drink Mix*
1 Tablespoon Raw Honey
2/3 cup Fresh Squeezed Orange Juice or another favorite juice
Add the clementine and spinach to a blender or food processor. Mix until fully combined and very smooth. Add rest of ingredients and mix well. Drink and feel better!
*Be sure to use a green mix that you really like the taste of. The particular brand we use has some fruit in it as well, so it is slightly sweet on it’s own. If you use a mix that is just greens, increase the honey by 1 Tablespoon.
If you would like another quick healing green drink (that’s powder free), try our Lucky Green Smoothie!
Best of luck to anyone who is trying to recover from winter illnesses and hope the rest of you are staying healthy! Hopefully spring will come soon so we can all be feeling much better!

I love the blend of citrus with greens – it actually tastes a lot better than it ever ends up looking! Hope college is treating you well, Chelsea!
