Everyone needs a good dinner roll recipe. A solid recipe that is easy to make and always fluffy, buttery and delicious. We can skip the freezer rolls and stale bakery breads this time! The holidays deserve homemade bread – hot out of the oven with butter, honey and jam ready.
This recipe begins with warm water and yeast fermenting and butter melting in hot scaled milk. This makes the dough extra delicious. You can use dairy-free milk and vegan butter, too!
We also use white whole wheat flour for really wholesome bread. It’s nutritious but has a great flavor to please anyone who prefers white flour.
Use the same bowl from mixing, kneading and rising. Place in a warm area to rise for a short while. Soon, they’ll puff up to bake deliciously golden and ultra soft!
These homemade rolls use simple ingredients and a quick 30 minute rise time. That means we can eat them anytime! And guilt-free! Whole wheat flour, organic eggs, non-dairy milk and raw honey to sweeten.
There’s a real happiness to warm, fresh homemade bread during the winter. Treat yourself to this happiness! They are perfect for Thanksgiving dinner, a Black Friday sandwich session or December holiday sliders. Eat them warm with your favorite toppings and a cup of tea. Use them for PB&J’s or transform them into something even sweeter. Living is good!
Easy Homemade Dinner Rolls
1/2 cup Warm Water
1 Tablespoon Yeast
1 1/4 cup Milk (I used almond milk)
5 Tablespoons Butter
2 Large Eggs
1 teaspoon Sea Salt
1/2 teaspoon Pure Vanilla Extract (optional)
5 Tablespoons Honey, divided
4 1/2-5 cups White Wheat Flour, plus more kneading (I like Trader Joe’s)
- Measure out yeast and put into ½ cup of warm water, heated to 110 degrees. Pour 1 Tablespoon honey over and gently mix. Set aside in a warm place.
- Scald milk by microwaving for 2 minutes or heating on the stove top over medium heat. Melt butter into milk and let cool for 5 minutes. Meanwhile, lightly beat eggs in a large bowl. Add 4 Tablespoons raw honey, vanilla and salt. Pour milk and butter mixture into the large bowl.
- Add yeast mixture and stir. Add 4 cups of flour and stir. Add another 1/2 cup or so and knead in until the mixture isn’t super sticky, adding a bit more flour as needed. Knead dough for five minutes with your hands. Cover with a damp towel and place in a warm area to let rise for 30-35 minutes.
- Pre-heat the oven to 400 degrees. Pinch out about 3 tablespoons of dough, roll into a smooth sphere and place in a buttered 9 by 13 baking dish or two buttered 8 inch baking dishes. Bake at 400 degrees for 18-25 minutes. Cover with foil if the rolls begin to brown a bit quickly anytime during the last 10 minutes of baking. Brush with butter when hot out of the oven and serve warm!
