Happy Spring Cleaning

May 1, 2012

Freshly cleaned windows and a sparkling fridge may come to mind when talking about spring cleaning and nothing welcomes a new, warmer season than a clean home. It can be quite satisfying knowing every spec of dust is cleared behind the oven and the lack of dirt on our welcome mats can contribute to a healthier home. I feel healthier and happier with a clean environment and I’m able to tackle new projects, plans, travels and company visits with more excitement!

An important part of spring cleaning that we firmly believe in is the mental and emotional cleaning we can do. It’s about cleaning out anything that doesn’t contribute to a healthy life. It’s about letting go of harmful habits, products and attitudes that don’t uplift us or lead to true health. It’s about taking the time for a little bit of R&R. It’s about letting go of guilt, worn out clothes, excessive indulgences, old spices in the cabinet, negative media and plain old stress. Most importantly, it’s about surrounding ourselves with good, inspiring things with reminders of what makes us happy.

I believe happiness is a big part of health. It’s a large factor in our habits and the choices we make – from what we eat to how we exercise. Happiness leads us to live more productive, more fulfilled lives. Checking in with ourselves during a change of season can help us evaluate where we are and what we can do to change our lifestyles to yield more joy. Spring cleaning is a great way to let go of anything that is holding us back from feeling clean and happy.

This month, I’m organizing my pantry, walking more everyday, washing curtains, devoting time just to play with my puppy, eating more colorfully, forgiving grievances from the winter, throwing out unhealthy foods, and basking in the beauty that’s all around me.

There’s a million ways to say hello to summer. We hope you find happiness in your own attempts at living a healthy and joyful life and will fully enjoy the beauty of a fresh new season! Happy Spring!
