Some days are just too hot for thinking. On those days, it’s best to stay cool inside and out.
There’s nothing better than a snow cone on days that are so hot, you could fry an egg on the sidewalk.
No one needs hot temperatures to enjoy this easy, icy treat, but we will take the excuse! As kids, there were always a few snow cone shacks around town. We remember flavors like Coconut Cream, Green Apple, and Tiger’s Blood. However delicious, many of those flavors are filled with crazy additives, toxic food coloring and more corn syrup than anyone wishes to consume. If you have a blender, you can make your very own healthy snow cones at home!
These are so easy to make at home. Flavors are still limitless but a little healthier. We decided to make our snow cones one of our favorite flavors – lemon! To make these as easy as possible – use natural store-bought lemonade or other juice flavors. Look out for naturally sweetened juices at Whole Foods, Trader Joe’s or any health foods store. Kids of all ages will love this treat with their favorite juice!

- Blend up ice in a blender until the ice is soft and fluffy. Pack some ice into a snow cone holder. And then pour enough juice over the top to flavor the ice. Enjoy!

I’m hoping you’re still monitoring comments on this. :) Have you ever attempted to store the ice you made in the blender to be used for snow cones later? I am in charge of a church picnic where they’re going to show the movie “Frozen.” I thought it would be fun to serve the kid Snow Cones, but it would be a lot easier to already have some ice premade and ready to go; however, I’m wondering if I try to store it in the freezer if it will just turn back into a block of ice. Any thoughts?

Hi Rene,
I think if you assembled the ice beforehand, being careful to not pack it in and then made sure to pour the juice at the picnic, you shouldn’t get a big block of ice. :) As long as you keep the ice from melting before putting it in the freezer. Depending on how large your group is, I wonder if you could find a snow cone shack or ice cream store to buy a bunch of already shaved ice for you? I don’t know if that is possible, but if you have a large group, that would be a bit easier! Hopefully those give you some ideas. What a cute church event! I hope you all have fun!

This is what summer dreams are made of! I’ve wanted to make snow cones at home for ages, but I had no idea it would really be so simple. Thank you for taking the unknown out of the concept- I’ll have to tackle this one ASAP now.
