I received a really special present for Christmas last year. A dehydrator! I know that I am a total nerd for asking for a dehydrator for Christmas. I chose to put “dehydrator” on my Christmas list when the more correct choice could be “Downton Abbey on Blue ray” or “Kate Spade Bag”. But I couldn’t contain my excitement when I opened up that beautiful contraption on Christmas morning. And instantly knew what I wanted to make first – apple chips!! A new dehydrator opens up a whole world of healthy, raw cuisine and apple chips would be the perfect thing to break this machine in while I learned the ropes.
I would recommend breaking in your new machine with apple chips because they are sooo easy to make with practically no clean up!! It will start off the whole dehydrating scene on a very happy note!
These apple chips will surprise you at how delicious they are. They are amazingly chewy and sweet for just being apples! Everyone in your family (including the dog) will love them. Add some cinnamon for an extra sweet treat and try not to enjoy them all in one day.
Homemade Apple Chips (raw, vegan and gluten free!)

4 Apples
1/2 Lemon
1 Tablespoon Cinnamon (optional)
Directions:
Core apples with an apple corer if you have one or take a knife to the center of the apple and cut out the middle core and seeds without breaking the outer portion of the apples.
Next, lay apple down horizontally and begin slicing thin slices (about 1/16 of an inch) from the base of the apple up to the top. You could also use one of those fancy apple swirl peelers that also de-core apples if you have one. Once your apples are in thin slices, drizzle and rub your lemon juice all over the slices, on both sides. Dust the pieces with cinnamon if desired. Lay the apple slices on your dehydrator trays, careful not to overcrowd them. Turn the dehydrator on to 135 degrees and allow the apples to dry for 8-9 hours. Store in airtight bags or glass containers at room temperature.

Thanks for mentioning my giveaway! I asked for a blender and a slow cooker for Christmas, and I’m honestly a little jealous I didn’t think to ask for a dehydrator. Apple chips sound like an amazing snack to make at home — would it be weird to ask for a dehydrator for Valentine’s day? ;-)

Of course!! It really is an awesome giveaway! A blender is a definite must-have and a smart choice because you will use it almost every day. :) But Valentine’s does sound like the perfect time to ask for one! :)
