To kick off March this year, I went on a 3 day juice/veggie cleanse about a week ago. I wanted to clean out carbs, meat, dairy, sugar and toxins from my body. To accomplish this, I ate all raw produce, upping my intake of greens and vegetables. Because I was trying to limit myself to mostly veggies and a few fruits, I was eating all those veggies in the best way I knew how – smoothies. Let me tell you, I was drinking quite the concoctions. It’s a bit of a challenge to make spinach, kale and cilantro taste okay without sweeteners!
As I was transitioning to more fruits and other foods, I began experimenting with more greens and increasing other ingredients. I was surprised that I began liking the green drinks I was coming up with. And I was absolutely thrilled to think such a yummy smoothie was so good for me.
If the sight of green drinks isn’t appealing to you, ease your mind knowing that there’s enough sweet things in this drink to make it worth drinking. The bright green color indicates it’s rich vitamin and mineral content. There are so many health benefits to be had from raw green produce. It’s easy to throw in a cup of spinach into any fruit smoothie, but this is more than just a cup of one kind of green. It’s filled with lots of different green goodness. Of course, the nature of this smoothie is sugar-free and vegan and with such fresh delicious ingredients, you’ll be surprised at how tasty it is, too. If I can make such a monster green drink taste good, it just had to be lucky.

Seriously – avocados are such a cool idea! Now that I’m into smoothies, I’m sad I didn’t take you up on the offer for breakfast smoothies when I stayed with you this summer.
What’s your take on freezing avocados? Any luck – or does it destroy the texture?

They are awesome!
YES freeze them!!! We actually wrote a post about foods that freeze well and frozen or thawed avocado works perfect for smoothies or sauces.

I came across this post last spring, and wanted to let you know this is the BEST green smoothie I’ve ever had! It’s been a regular in my smoothie repertoire ever since, and I’ve shared the link with many friends. Sometimes I use all kale, or kale and spinach or arugula. The texture is almost always perfect, not mealy or gritty like other green smoothies I’ve tried. And it has just the right amount of sweet, so it doesn’t taste so much like greens. Nice work, and thanks for sharing!

We’re so glad it’s worked well for you so many times! Thanks for sharing your feedback with the different greens- there’s nothing worse than a lumpy green drink! :) Thank you for your sweet comment and sharing our site with your friends! :)
