Hey, friends! It’s been awhile! I’ve been traveling the past few weeks and I want to share my trip with you! While I had never traveled internationally growing up, my husband and I take full advantage of opportunities to travel now. We love it! This June, we traveled to Eastern Europe. Here are the cities: Prague, Budapest, Vienna and Salzburg!
Each city is beautiful in it’s own way!. They definitely won us over and we fell in love with this region of Europe. Prague was our first destination. What a great place to explore and get lost in the streets of Old Town. The historical landmarks are so incredible. Prague has cathedrals, bridges and clock towers that date back to the 900’s! It’s unreal!!
This city has incredible views. The river runs through the city and creates the most gorgeous backdrop!
We ate at ZLATÁ PRAHA, the Intercontinental hotel’s restaurant on our last night. It was one of the most amazing meals of our whole trip! The cauliflower cakes with a leek cream were seriously delicious and the fresh homemade bread kept coming with herbed butter and fresh sheep butter. We highly recommend dinner here for great food and beautiful views of the city.
The next day, we headed for Budapest. We arrived into Budapest by train just in time for the sunset. One view of the sunset behind the river had us fall right in love with this city!
There are so many gorgeous buildings and structures. Take a river cruise at night – you will not regret it! The river reminded us a little of Paris. The city lights up at night and is just magic!
There are many cathedrals, landmarks and museums to see in Budapest. So much beauty!
Budapest surprised us with some great food! We spent a leisurely brunch at The New York Cafe. This building is absolutely beautiful and they had live music!
They even had healthy meal options. I tried the unsweetened yogurt “cake” with a sugar-free fruit glaze. My husband had a delicious omelette. We almost didn’t want to leave.
Later that day we indulged in the best gelato at Gelarto Rosa – created in the shape of roses!! It was one of the most beautiful and delicious desserts I’d ever eaten!
Budapest was also very fun for the gorgeous views of the city. Climb the hill to Liberty Statue. Also make a visit to Fisherman’s Bastion. The views at both places will blow you away.
Our next destination was Vienna. What a beauty! Vienna is such a lovely place. Everywhere we looked, there was a statue or building that was absolutely breathtaking.
One travel tip for Vienna is to get the Vienna City Pass – it gives you access to the cities highlights or discounted access tickets. It’s very helpful and saves some money for the most popular sights. One highlight was Schonbrunn’s Palace. All the grounds are a must-see.
Vienna has incredible architecture and beautiful parks and gardens throughout the city.
Our next and last city was Salzburg. It was one of our favorites! Salzburg was extremely memorable for me because of the iconic spots throughout the city. Are you a Sound of Music or Julie Andrews fan? Visit this city to see all the iconic city spots from the film. It was SO fun!
Not only was Salzburg fun to see for the movie, but the city holds incredible history and is such a beautiful town. We saw Mozart’s birthplace and family instruments. It’s very close to Germany so we ventured towards the Bavarian Alps for more incredible views (including the Eagle’s Nest!). Austria is such a beautiful country!
Salzburg had a more intimate, small town feel that we really loved yet it still felt adventurous. There was lots to do. This is the view from the Salzburg Fortress. Isn’t it charming?!
Salzburg had a great mix of food – we ate delicious Indian, classic Austrian and inventive burgers during our stay! There were also many vegetarian and vegan restaurants/options around town!
When our sunscreen was depleted, my manicure chipping and our feet exhausted, we were ready to go home. We loved this trip so much and loved the beauty and culture in each city. We’re grateful to have experienced this side of the world. It’s such a stunning place!
Have you ever traveled to these areas? Where were your favorite places?? If you’re planning a visit, I hope you’ll take inspiration from these cities and enjoy every moment of your travels! Eastern Europe definitely makes for a wonderful vacation!
