All-Natural Orange Spice Potpourri

December 15, 2011

Nothing brings on the holidays like the scents of the season.

Apart from holiday baking, candles and air fresheners are a great way to fill your home with festive scents. But have you ever wondered what kinds of things are included in those products? Looking a little closer, the ingredient lists to create those scents are less than stellar. They are filled with harmful chemicals! Breathing those kinds of ingredients all through the holidays is not a great way to start the season. Being the naturally driven ladies that we are, we love this homemade alternative. Homemade potpourri  creates the lovely aromas of Christmas in a healthy way.

Begin by getting a medium sized pot and filling it 3/4 the way full.

All-Natural Orange Spice Potpourri Recipe
3 Orange Peels
3 Cinnamon Sticks
1 Nutmeg
4 Cloves
3-4 cups Water, plus more

Pour water in a medium size pot until 3/4 the way full, about 3 or 4 cups.  Mix all ingredients into the water. Put it on the stove and let simmer on low. Add more water if after 2 or 3 hours, you want to keep the potpourri going.

This potpourri also makes a wonderful holiday gift! Pack all ingredients together except water in a large glass jar or bottle. Make sure to use within one or two days. Enjoy!

Please do not leave your house while this is simmering and be sure to fill more water in pot as needed.
