Salads with delicious fresh fruit and a homemade dressing are probably the best way to enjoy raw spinach. Strawberry and spinach just go together! However, some ingredients added to salads like these, can make them suddenly not the healthiest. Sugar-filled dressings, cheeses, sugar dried fruit or candied nuts have a way of quickly turning off the health factor!
Salad dressings are probably the biggest culprit for hiding added sugars. Often times, it’s not just listed in the ingredients, but one of the first ingredients used! That means that sugar provides the bulk of that particular dressing and causes you to eat more sugar than planned on. In regards to refined sugars, we would much rather save our sugar intake for incredible desserts, not be overloaded with sugar before we reach our main dish.
The great news is that healthy, simple salads and homemade salad dressings can be SO easy to make! Fresh strawberries take the place of sugary ingredients. This healthy dressing is just as sweet as other dressings and it’s easy to whip up and store in your fridge whenever you need. It tastes amazing with this strawberry salad or any veggie dish!
