We tasted our very first buckeyes several years ago.
A neighbor had kindly given some to our family as a holiday treat. This same neighbor is also the person who introduced us to Oreo buckeyes (also known as Oreo Truffles).
Every winter, we pull out the buckeye recipes! Not a winter goes by that we don’t bless that neighbor’s name for introducing these delicious bites to our family! Is it true these peanut butter balls are an Ohio treat? We aren’t sure where they originated from, but we are sure they are delicious! Now that we know how to make them naturally sweet, we fully enjoy these healthy truffles year round!
Peanut Butter Buckeye Balls (vegan & no bake)
Print Recipe
1/2 cup Creamy Natural Peanut Butter
1/2 cup Coconut Sugar
1 teaspoon Pure Vanilla Extract
2-4 Tablespoons Vanilla Protein Powder
1/3 cup Sugar Free Chocolate, melted
Combine all ingredients, except for the chocolate, in a small bowl. Depending on how oily or firm your peanut butter is, the amount of protein powder you need may vary. Mix the ingredients well and if it is still too sticky, add a bit more protein powder. Chill the mixture for 10 minutes. Remove from the fridge, roll into balls and place on a parchment lined dish. Melt chocolate and spoon or dip onto the peanut butter balls. Return to the fridge for another 5 minutes, or until chocolate has hardened and then devour!

Hi, these look delicious! The buckeye is the state tree of Ohio (like the Ohio State University Buckeyes) and usually the candy is made to resemble the buckeye nut. So the peanut butter ball is dipped in the melted chocolate, leaving a light brown, peanut butter circle at the top. It looks like yours inverted the color scheme, which is equally delicious, and much more peanut buttery!
